🌊New Memo: Policies to Save Working Waterfronts
Working waterfronts are the backbone of coastal communities and economies, but sea level rise, intensifying storms, development, gentrification, and changes to the labor market are putting them at risk. The U.S. can’t afford to lose these places, which provide 100s of thousands of jobs to dockworkers, fishers, farmers, and other workers around the country.
Our new memo shows how cities, states, and the federal government can advance policies and funding opportunities to
preserve and revitalize working waterfronts.
Residents from California to Maine have already formed volunteer groups and coalitions to try to shore up their docks and ports. But grassroots action isn’t enough to fill this gap—coastal communities also need their cities, in coordination with state and federal government, to act.
A Path to Protect and Support Working Waterfronts outlines relevant benefits, challenges, and recommendations for policymakers to make that happen.
